If you’re a small business owner running your own marketing or solo marketeer wearing multiple hats – this SME Marketing Playbook is for you.
When I first set out on my own and left the corporate world, it was a bit of a lonely place to begin with. I knew quite quickly that I needed to find my tribe.
An ex colleague, who was also now running her own marketing agency, recommended I join Mums in Marketing, a community of mothers who are employed or self employed in marketing in some way, shape or form.
So, I dove straight in with a year’s membership and I am still a member today. It was through that community that I met the brilliant strategists and specialist marketers that I collaborated with to put together the SME Marketing Playbook, which we released earlier this summer (before this website launched, hence the late upload of this blog piece about it!).
Marketing Report Highlights
The playbook was researched, developed, designed to help small business owners and solo marketers that wear multiple hats when it comes to running their business and provide practical support.
The research highlighted that:
– 58% of SMEs spend less than £250/month on marketing (just £3k/year!)
– 46% have no formal marketing strategy at all
– 65% of marketing is managed by business owners themselves
– 1 in 5 are spending without knowing what works
– 65% say lack of time is their biggest barrier
While some of these stats may not come as a total surprise, it reinforces the struggles of SME’s today and why getting the right marketing support is crucial.
The marketing landscape is forever changing, but the struggles of time and budgets restraints for marketers and teams remain in place.
As a group of passionate marketers, all based across the UK, we set out to create this playbook to help raise the bar and provide a roadmap for small businesses, because marketing as a role and function, is too often thought of as a luxury or implemented with no strategy.
What you’ll find inside
Inside the playbook you’ll find practical tips across a range of areas from where to find support for funding, strategic frameworks, expert tips on SEO, email marketing, paid search and social and much more.
Whether you’re looking to hire a freelancer, marketing consultant, start to build your in-house team or work with a strategic partner or agency, this whitepaper is a great place to start in understanding the strategic advantage you can gain from getting off on the right foot with your marketing.
