The Blog

Why I’m starting a blog in 2025.

I guess the short answer to this question is because I am launching my business website and as a marketeer I know that having a blog as part of your website can be a great way to drive website traffic and keep your content fresh.

But is blogging still worth it in 2025?

Starting a blog is a big commitment. I write content for clients and you have to be consistent, have a regular stream of ideas, know who you’re writing for – dare I say it, have a strategy.

I have mulled over the decision to start a blog quite a few times before actually putting pen to paper (yes, I did actually brainstorm this blog using a good old fashioned pen and paper before I started typing it up on my laptop).

Even as a marketeer who knows the value in long-form content marketing, I still Googled and asked Chat GPT questions like ‘is blogging still worth it in 2025?’ The answers they both returned were ‘yes, but blogging has evolved’ and ‘the blogging landscape has changed’ and ‘blogging brings about opportunity, but bloggers need to adapt their strategy’ and let’s not forget the challenge ‘AI driven content’ brings.

Why should I commit the time to blogging?

So, I really had to ask myself, Tania, why do you want to commit time to writing a regular blog, other than using it as a way of driving website traffic and potentially attracting new clients? Using a blog as a marketing tool to drive website traffic isn’t guaranteed and it’s a long game. Do you have the time? Not really.

So I started to brainstorm ‘what else could blogging do for me?’

Here’s what I came up with:

Blogging could be a way to share my learnings

I am curious, always learning, reading a book, listening to a podcast, adding lessons learnt to my notes app. Keeping up with the ever-changing marketing landscape is exhausting at times, but it’s also one of the reasons I love marketing. So a blog could be a great way to get my lessons learned out of my notes app on my phone and out there to share with others – a way to add value. That’s definitely worth taking the time to do.

Blogging will give me time to reflect

I am terrible at this, but it’s something I tell my clients to do all the time. Take time to reflect, see what you’ve achieved and celebrate successes. Review what’s working and what’s not and then use those insights to inform your strategic decision making. I like writing and I know that sitting down to write this blog will force me to sit with my pen and a notepad first and think. Actually stop. And think.

Blogging could be a way to improve my own writing and marketing skills

They say ‘practice makes perfect’. I’m not aiming for perfection – I don’t really believe it exists, but I do want to see progress. By writing my own blog, I’m almost certain to discover ways to be a better writer and storyteller. But beyond that, I know that I won’t want my long-form content to just sit here in a blog. I’ll want to repurpose it for my social media channels and use it in my email marketing. Overall it will support my multi-channel strategy.

Writing a blog could help me build trust and authority

Before I started Prior Marketing & Co. in 2023, I had a corporate marketing career for over 15 years. But I know just telling people that isn’t enough for potential clients to believe I know my stuff – I need to demonstrate it with my thoughts. Besides a small social media presence on Instagram and LinkedIn, my online visibility is virtually non-existent. I’ve Googled myself, the results are minimal. A well-written blog could help me build on that.

A blog could help me build a community and bring real connection

I have come across so many great communities and interesting people that I have learned from via blogs. I like that long-form content can help you get to know a person. Hopefully my blogs can help my audience get to know me.

I’m not just a marketing consultant running a small business, I’m a mum, I like running (currently training for my 5th Great North Run) – my blog could include stories about all of these themes – not just marketing.

Hopefully by sharing a bit about myself, I will then get to know my audience too – see what resonates, what people connect with and actually care about.

Publishing a blog may even help build my confidence

This is a big one. Even as I am sitting typing this, I am not sure if I will be brave enough to actually upload this blog and press ‘publish’. If you’re reading this then I obviously did. But putting myself out there is definitely an area I underestimated when I went self-employed. I am not great at making myself visible – online anyway. Put me in a room full of strangers at a networking event and I’ll happily be the first to introduce myself – but writing content and publishing it online… not my favourite thing to do. But a confidence coach once told me, “the best way to build your confidence is to practice not being confident and take action.” So here goes…

A blog could be a great way to collaborate with others

People often ask me why I called the business Prior Marketing & Co.? The Prior Marketing bit is obvious, but why ‘& Co.’? Honestly, at first, it was because I couldn’t get the domain name Prior Marketing, that was taken, so I had to look at other options.

But priormarketingandco was available. I liked the way it sounded and thought it had a ring to it. Then I got to thinking what could the & Co stand for.

Using and Co. after a name in a business sense often implies it’s operated or even owned by more than one person. But that’s not the case for Prior Marketing & Co.

Technically, it is just me. But in reality it’s not. I collaborate and partner with so many other freelancers, agencies and businesses and this has brought about so much opportunity for growth and allowed me to take on projects I couldn’t have done alone.

As a generalist marketeer, focussing on strategy, the bigger picture, I know when it’s time to bring in the specialists to a project. Over the years I have built a network of amazingly talented people, based not just in the North East, but across the UK and the world – all with a very diverse skill set across a broad range of industries.

So if you choose to work with me, it’s highly likely you’ll benefit from my amazing network too.

This blog could be a great way to showcase and introduce those in my network and the amazing skills and knowledge they have.

Committing to writing a blog

So it turns out that on paper it looks like there is a lot a blog could do for me, my personal development, my curious mind, my business, but also for others. Therefore, I am making the commitment to write a regular blog from here on out.

Let’s put it to the test and find out!
